Established in 2007 captincaptin is a collaboration, of artists Gareth Goodison and Jonathan Munro. Through this collaboration captincaptin has explored the possibilities of user dependant interactive installations and sculptures. Creating artworks that can only exist in a completed form when the viewer actively engages with them, encouraging the audience to re-address their role in the display and creation of contemporary art. This can be achieved through a variety of sensory interactions including movement, touch, and speech.
With the use of triggers and sensors, physical interfacing is enabled through electronic circuits, robotics and computer programming. The sculptures and installations dynamically respond to changes within their environmental space, sensing a person’s presence and engagement. This interaction between artwork and viewer is not always apparent, a person may move within the environment of the installation and be unaware as to the direct response of their involvement.
At the beginning of 2009 captincaptin founded TINT. An artist run interdisciplinary media arts organisation, dedicated to art which is derived from, and reflects upon the intersections of technology and culture. With a program of exhibitions and events that support an experimentation of media and interactive arts, encouraging audiences to participate, explore and create!
